Laser treatments sound more dramatic than they feel. Most of our patients describe a first session as a warm snap on the skin, over in a few minutes. What makes the difference is the preparation and the settings, and that work starts before the laser is switched on.
Step one: the patch test
Every laser plan begins with a small patch test on an area you can see. We use it to confirm the settings for your skin type and to check how your skin responds over the next 48 hours. It is quick, it is included, and it means your first full session is tuned to you.
Before your session
- Avoid sun exposure and self-tan for two weeks.
- Shave the area the day before laser hair removal. Do not wax or pluck.
- Pause retinol and exfoliating acids five days before treatment.
- Arrive with clean skin, without makeup or lotion on the area.
During and after
Your nurse cools the skin, you wear protective glasses, and the session takes fifteen to forty-five minutes depending on the area. Some redness is normal for a few hours. Use a gentle cleanser, a plain moisturiser and SPF 30 or higher every day while you are in treatment.
Results build gradually. Most hair removal plans need six to eight sessions, four to six weeks apart.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the treatment and your skin. Pigment and redness often improve in three sessions; hair reduction takes longer because hair grows in cycles. We give you a written plan and an exact price at your consultation, so there are no surprises later. See our laser and energy prices.
